The Professor of Prestidigitation, Dr. Marc Charisse, will also be performing authentic Civil War era magic during the tea. “Magic is the oldest of the performing arts, but 21st century audiences will find Victorian conjuring surprisingly up-to-date,” said Charisse, who has been studying and performing magic for nearly 50 years. Charisse’s performance will also include a special magical homage to President Abraham Lincoln, who attended a performance of John Henry Anderson, a Scottish conjurer billed as “The Wizard of the North.” “Anderson was a big hit with Lincoln,” Charisse said. “But the Wizard of the North never understood why his show flopped in Richmond, Virginia.”
