Yanks, Rebs, and Tories: How the British Spied, Pried, and Scandalized Their Way into the U.S. Civil War, by Christine Trent
GETTYSBURG HERITAGE CENTER
297 Steinwehr Ave Gettysburg, PA 17325
In 1815, the United States kicked Great Britain out of its borders for the second, and final, time. Or did they? Although officially adopting a position of neutrality in the escalating tensions of 1861, the British government observed America’s internal dissentions with great interest and impatience while it waited to recognize the Confederacy at its earliest opportunity. The U.S. minister to Great Britain, Charles Francis Adams, Sr., was just as impatient to prevent parliament from doing so.
From the Trent Affair to commerce raiders, Great Britain was a constant irritant in an already painful and bloody war. However, it would soon be Great Britain who found herself on the receiving end of pain and punishment. Join Christine Trent, author of the Lady of Ashes historical mystery series, as she spins out the story of British involvement in the U.S. Civil War, a remarkable tale full of skullduggery, sabotage, and covert mischief.
Bio: Christine Trent is the author of the Lady of Ashes historical mystery series, about a Victorian-era undertaker, as well as the author of three other historical novels. The first book in her new Florence Nightingale Mysteries will release on May 8, 2018. Christine’s novels have been translated into Turkish, Polish, and Czech. She writes from her two-story home library, where she lives with her wonderful bookshelf-building husband, six precocious cats, a large doll collection, entirely too many fountain pens, and over 4,000 catalogued books. Learn more about Christine at www.christinetrent.com and follow her on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ChristineTrentBooks.
